- RE: Accreditation status of the NMSU Athletic Training Education Program
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As many of you are aware, the NMSU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) was placed on probation following the accreditation site visit in the spring of 2006. During the past two years the NMSU faculty and staff have worked diligently to address the non-compliance issues that were cited during the 2006 site visit.
The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Board met on February 16-17, 2008 and reviewed the NMSU progress report. I am pleased to announce that the progress report was accepted; the probationary status was removed; and continuing accreditation was awarded retroactive to the academic year 2005-2006. This means that the NMSU ATEP is accredited, and has been accredited since 1986. At no time since 1986 has the NMSU ATEP been without accreditation by the appropriate governing body.
The NMSU ATEP is strongly supported by the administration and faculty members of the College of Education, and the Department of Human Performance, Dance & Recreation, and by members in the surrounding community.
I hope this information dispels any previous information or rumor you may have heard about the NMSU ATEP. Please contact me if you have further questions regarding the NMSU ATEP.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Hostetter
